Fall 2025 Wilderness First Aid: October 25-26
MRVBC, in collaboration with Mad River Glen, is pleased to make this WFA course offering available in the Valley.
The Wilderness First Aid (WFA) is a two-day (8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) training and certification course that provides a solid foundation in the basics of backcountry medical care. CPR certification is included as a part of all WFA courses taught by Kingdom Adventures Mountain Guides, LLC. Each course is designed and tailored for mountain bikers, hikers, climbers, backpackers, backcountry skiers and other outdoor enthusiasts who venture out for day and weekend trips.
Course Topics
Topics covered in the WFA course include the items listed below that meet the minimum guidelines and scope of practice for wilderness first aid. The CPR skills satisfy the ILCOR and AHA guidelines for Basic CPR for adult and child that includes AED training. All Wilderness First Aid and CPR handouts will be distributed on the first day of the course. Upon successful completion of the course, including testing, each student will earn certification cards for Wilderness First Aid and CPR by Kingdom Adventures Mountain Guides. The certifications are valid for a period of 2 years. To re-certify, students would need to register for another 2-day WFA & CPR course.
Response and Assessment
A summary of accidents, incidents and considerations for evacuation.
Body substance isolation.
Patient assessment system.
Patient lifting and moving techniques.
Signs, symptoms, and treatment for shock.
Musculoskeletal Injuries
The musculoskeletal system.
Signs, symptoms, and treatment of sprains, strains, and fractures.
Principles and practices of splinting.
Spinal cord injury management.
Soft Tissue Injuries
Soft tissue wound management – bleeding control, wound cleaning techniques, and bandaging skills.
Environmental Emergencies
Cold weather-related injuries and treatment.
Heat related injuries and treatment.
Bites and Stings.
Lightning safety.
Back-county essentials.
Medical Emergencies
Change in level of consciousness.
Shortness of breath – Asthma.
Allergic reactions and treatment.
Chest pain; heart attack, angina.
Adult and Child CPR skills including AED training.
Course Fees and Accommodations
The course fee for the Kingdom Adventures Mountain Guides Wilderness First Aid & CPR certification course is set at $225 per person. The course fee covers the cost of tuition, all first aid equipment, handouts, and supplies utilized in the course, as well as travel, lodging and food expenses incurred by the instructor. Students are responsible for their own overnight accommodation.
Student Enrollment & Collection of Course fees
The minimum number of students is 6 students. Maximum enrollment is 16 to enhance learning of and practice with the course material.
Personal Equipment
Students should dress accordingly to the weather and bring a small pack that contains items that would be normally carried on a long day hike/ski in the mountains (extra clothing layers, rain gear, etc.). An assortment of additional equipment, including PPE supplies, will be provided by Kingdom Adventures Mountain Guides LLC, for small group activities.

Slots are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. The class is capped at 16 participants.

CANCELLATION POLICY: Refunds will not be provided within 14 days of the course start date.
COURSE CANCELLATION: MRVBC and Kingdom Adventures Mountain Guides, LLC reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason including but not limited to 1) insufficient number of registrants (6 minimum), 2) COVID-19, and/or 3) instructor illness. A full refund will be provided if the course is cancelled.
